There are three options available to you here:
Upload air travel data
Use an estimate from my accounting tool
We don't measure this seperately
Upload Air Travel Data
This is the most accurate way to tell CarbonTrail about your air travel across the financial year, and is required if you want to have your data audited for certification later on.
Click Get Started. The Upload Flight Data modal appears:
The easiest way to get started is to download the Template file and customise it to meet your requirements.
Open the template in Excel or Google Sheets, and enter in the following data for each flight (including each leg) to the spreadsheet:
Column | Purpose |
Date | The date of the flight. In the format DD/MM/YYYY |
Airline | The name of the airline. |
Origin_IATA | The airport IATA code. It is a three letter word. For example Singapore is SIN, and London Heathrow is LHR. You can look up airport data here: https://www.iata.org/en/publications/directories/code-search/ |
Destination_IATA | The airport IATA code. It is a three letter word. For example Singapore is SIN, and London Heathrow is LHR. You can look up airport data here: https://www.iata.org/en/publications/directories/code-search/ |
PAX | The number of passengers in the leg. |
Class | The cabin class. Choose from Economy, Premium Economy, Business or First. |
Description | A description to help you find the flight later. |
Flight_Number_Optional | Optionally, add the flight number. In the future we'll use this to improve the accuracy of your results. |
Once you're done, save the file, return to CarbonTrail, and you can then upload it. Once you have uploaded your file, you'll see a screen that looks like this:
You can click Next on this screen. Then, you'll see a screen that allows you to map columns from your spreadsheet into the columns CarbonTrail expects. If you use our template, you don't need to change anything!
Click Next to continue. The Verify Data screen appears:
Again, you can click Next here. We'll then upload your flights into the tool, and they'll be calculated in the background.

Use data from my accounting tool
We can use a "spend-based" estimate by looking at your spending on flights to get an approximation of your emissions here. We would always reccomend using the process above to get the most accurate emissions data possible.
