How to Confirm Electricity Data Taken from Xero
Using your spend data from Xero is a fantastic starting point, but to get a highly accurate Scope 1 and 2 footprint, we need the raw numbers. Because electricity prices fluctuate constantly, knowing your exact usage in kilowatt-hours (kWh) is much more precise than knowing your total dollar spend.
Here is how to confirm and extract the raw electricity data that flows into CarbonTrail from Xero.
Before You Begin
Our system works best when your electricity invoices are directly attached to the transactions inside Xero itself.
Pro-Tip: Head into Xero and make sure you have attachments on your electricity transactions before reviewing them in CarbonTrail. It makes reconciliation much easier! If you need to add them now, just let us know when you are done and we can re-import your Xero data so everything is up to date.
Step-by-Step Guide
Once your Xero data is imported, follow these steps to confirm your electricity usage:
Navigate to the Electricity category in CarbonTrail.
Locate a specific electricity transaction. You should see the invoice or receipt attached directly from Xero.
Check for missing attachments. If the receipt is missing, click Replace or Upload Invoice and Receipt to upload it manually.
Choose to extract the data using AI. Click the option to auto-extract line items. You can choose to do this for just the current transaction, or for all transactions that came from Xero.
Review the extracted data. CarbonTrail will read the invoice and pull the total kilowatt-hours (kWh) automatically.
Edit if necessary. If there are any issues with the extraction, you can manually edit the quantity in the provided field. (Note: You can also skip the AI entirely and manually type the kWh from the invoice from the start).
Click Accept All once you are happy with the data for that particular invoice.
Move down your list and repeat this process for every single line item in your electricity transactions.
Once you have confirmed all of your electricity data, you are ready to move on to the Fuel and Gas sections!
